Brown’s Waste Assessment
Procedure:
1. All the trash produced in the lunchroom in one day was monitored by a representative from Green Up Our Schools and a group of student helpers.
One day in the lunchroom produced 74 lbs. of food waste alone!
2.
Next, the students went around and collected all of the trash from the classrooms, office, and bathrooms. This trash filled one 32-gallon trash can to the brim, bringing Brown’s daily total to 194 lbs., including food waste. The good news is...
Brown recycles 307 pounds of paper and cardboard
per week, a fantastic effort!
3.
The Waste Assessment showed that almost all of the trash produced in the lunchroom can be eliminated through the Waste Free Lunch campaign, the switch to reusable utensils, and Brown’s future composting program.
