December 2018 Featured School

Although waste audit season is nearly over, we're still excited to highlight what our schools have been up to! Check out a brand new school that decided to build their green culture from the ground up!

Escenia K-8

Ladera Ranch, CA

Esencia K-8 opened their doors this fall for their very first year! Currently housing K-5, the school will be adding grades 6-8 over the next few years. The school is committed to sustainability, demonstrated by their engage students and dedicated team of teachers and parents ready to assist the student Green Team. Ms. Sobeleski was a pivotal player in organizing their student Green Team, which quickly grew to 13 committed 4th and 5th grade members. Thank you Ms.Sobeleski, Ms.Ojinaga, and team!

The students were a great help in weighing and documenting the waste, and other students nearby became very interested in everything they were doing and were eager to get involved - so they expect their Green Team to grow and grow! Their school-wide educational campaign is underway and even with their hands in trash, the kids were having fun and are excited for what comes next!

Students observed some trends that would make them lean towards a few different projects; After some deliberation, this year they have decided to start with e-communications and a hydration station with a reusable water bottle campaign. Be sure to check back on their progress!

Way to go Esencia K-8!
